A Summary of His History (no MSQ spoilers)
Fyrne was separated from his parents at the age of seven in a traumatic incident, one that also gave him a head injury resulting in memory issues. After finding his parents' bodies, he wandered until he was picked up by a traveling merchant, who brought him to Ul'dah to be seen by a chirurgeon for his visible injuries. Still disoriented and poorly attended, he managed to find his way out of the chirurgeons' chambers and into the streets of Ul'dah, where he would find his home.
His agility at a young age lead him to many high places in Ul'dah, where he would observe the city. When he didn't walk the rooftops, he would lurk among the shadows of the city's alleys with the other forgotten folks. He stole for his first few years there before he was taught what to do with a knife by one of the others. From then on, he would hunt small game and keep their meat, selling their skins for gil from pitying merchants. Eventually he built up to larger game, and got into the Coliseum when he was around 14.
He was an unremarkable fighter and only fought for the compensation for a few years, but after getting his tail handed to him weekly for years, he began to learn. His dirty playing style, lack of armour, and winning streak was what got the attention of Thancred and the Scions.
He would work with them (rather, under them) for several years, eventually "retiring" after the events of Endwalker and living on an island in the Cieldalaes. Working sunrise to sunset on the island, he finds his peace... until Tataru informs him of a letter he received. The letter— which she believes to be real— is from his parents, who found him by word of his deeds and accounts of what he looked like. Deciding to meet with them, he finds out that they are, in fact, his parents.
Having not known his parents for many years, he struggles to connect with them, and struggles to reconcile their idea of him with the reality of his life; he's crass, can't read or write, has a drinking problem, and lives alone on an island to cope. He now spends his days trying to be a person deserving of his parents, rather than what he is: the result of a child being left alone for twenty years.
